Question: Why aren’t there any reviews in my area? Answer: As all the reviews on youreguides are contributed by members of the public we are limited to reviews of places our current members have been and have experience of. Therefore some areas of the country may have little or no information in at this time. Why not help by adding some reviews and telling other people about us. Question: What guides are there on the site? Answer: Currently there are 22 guides. These are BBQ places, Beaches, Bed and Breakfasts, Caravan and Camp Sites, Cycle Routes, Days Out/Tourist Attractions, Golf Courses, Gyms, Holiday Homes, Hotels, Kennels, Landlords, Night Clubs, Pets, Pubs, Restaurants, Towns and Cities, Trades persons/Services, Universities and Walking/Running Routes. Question: Why write a review? Answer: By writing a review on this site you allow other people to be able to share in your knowledge of a place or service, which will allow them to make a more informed decision about whether they do or do not visit that place or use that service. The more reviews on youreguides the more useful youreguides is to everyone. So contributing reviews to the site will benefit others, as their contributions will hopefully be useful to you now and in future. Question: How can I trust reviews on the site? Answer:  The reviews on the site are people’s opinions. So there will be some reviews that are less useful than others, just as in real life people’s recommendations can vary in quality. If you know of a place featured in a review you can vote on whether you agree with the review or not. Vote good if you do or bad if you don’t, you could also write your own review. Question: Why are there two different types of search in each section? Answer: There are two types of search, an index search and a full search. Each has its merits. The Index Search will return one result for each place or service and will take you to a page that has a summary box at the top, which includes all the information taken from the reviews of that place or service. Information that is more opinion based and each reviewer’s summary then appears underneath. This is the easiest search to use but has fewer criteria you can search by. The full search will return one result for each review. So a place with 4 reviews will have 4 results. Clicking on one of these search results will take you to a page displaying that individual review. You can search by opinion-based criteria with this type of search, such as ratings. Therefore the full search lets you search using more criteria and lets you get more specific results. Question: What’s the point of the various leagues on the site? Answer: The leagues are meant to be part fun but also to try to be informative and a useful way of comparing the things reviewed against each other. There are leagues in the pets, universities and towns and cities guides. So people can compare the various merits of places to study, live or pet to own. Question: How do the leagues work? Answer: The leagues work by taking scores from each review contributed in that guide. These values come from the answers to the questions asked when a person writes a review. The score for the league is the average of all the scores from the reviews on that place or type of animal. Question: Can I influence the leagues? Answer: Yes, your review, once submitted will form part of the score. |
